The Coverage Map, Explained

The City of Knoxville covers about 98.72 square miles, but Knox County, Tennessee is far bigger, and many homes with a Knoxville mailing address sit outside city limits. Powell, Halls, Karns, Hardin Valley and Corryton are good examples. We take requests from all of them.

Beyond Knox County, we cover five towns with pages of their own. Each one has its own codes office, and the rules on roofer licenses change at the county line, so the details below are worth a read before you sign anything.

A note on licenses. Knox County is the only one of these counties where Tennessee's Home Improvement license applies. There, a residential roof job of $3,000 to $24,999 needs that license, and $25,000 or more needs a state contractor license. In Maryville, Clinton, Oak Ridge and Lenoir City, the state rule to know is the contractor license for jobs of $25,000 or more. Check any roofer's license at verify.tn.gov.

Near the Edge of the Area?

Mailing addresses don't always match city limits. A Maryville, Clinton or Lenoir City address can sit out in the county, and then the county codes office handles permits: Blount County at 865-681-9301, Anderson County at 865-457-6244 or Loudon County at 865-458-4470. Your roofer takes care of any permit, so ask them whether your job needs one, and call the right office before work starts.

Still unsure whether your street is covered? Call (865) 555-0147 or send the form with your address, and we'll tell you whether an independent roofer in your area can take the request.
